Highest Paid IT Certifications of 2016

We all know IT career is all about getting the right certification at the right time.  A degree from a college can go a long way but is just not enough in today's highly competitive and rapidly changing world of IT.

So which certification earned the highest demand by the employers?  One indicator may be the number of jobs available, and another one would be the average salary earned by the certified professionals.

Global Knowledge just released highest average salary by IT certification in 2016.  The top 10 certification in their list is as following:

  1. AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate - $125,871
  2. Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) - $122,954
  3. Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) - $122,291
  4. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) - $121,923
  5. Project Management Professional (PMP®) - $116,094
  6. Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) - $113,320
  7. Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Routing and Switching - $112,858
  8. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Data Center - $107,045
  9. Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) - $105,008
  10. Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) - $103,297

Do you agree with this list?  I believe it's a little skewed toward network and security side of the industry.  It could be because these two particular fields with IT relies heavily on candidates that are well certified.

Let's take a look at another ranking from Capella University:

  1. Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) - $118.348
  2. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) - $110,603
  3. Project Mangement Professionals (PMP) - $109,405
  4. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching - $97,038
  5. Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) - $96,726
  6. Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) - $95,155
Here, we see MCSE ranked at #5 position.  Surely, there are many other great certifications that simply didn't qualify for not having enough respondents for the survey.  Personally, I'd like to see more certifications in the data field such as BI and data analytics move into the top positions in the coming years.
