Have A Bigger Impact At Work

There is never a bad time to decide that you want to achieve more in life but you can see why many people decide that the beginning of a New Year is the perfect chance to make some changes to their life. Whether you want to focus on your health, your fitness, your love life or your career is up to you but you should think about what you need to improve and what will bring you the best benefits.

People are different and the right solution for one person may not be the most attractive option for another person. There is no getting away from the fact that many people are keen to achieve more at work but perhaps don’t know where to begin. This is where finding support from others and creating a plan can help you to have a bigger impact at work.

Be more informed

The first step to having a bigger impact at work is being more informed. This means knowing more about the work that you do, the overall direction of the firm and what is taking place in the industry. This is a lot of information to take in, so you may not feel as though you can do it all in one day, week or month but don’t worry about that. A lot of people make resolutions and then when they haven’t achieved a high level of success in a short period of time, they think that it is best for them to give up.

This isn’t the case. If you resolve to learn a little bit more every working day, you’ll be surprised at the overall level of change and impact that you can have.

Take the lead in meetings

Once you know about your work and what you should achieve, it is time to share this information with your colleagues. Whether you discuss matters with your colleagues, have one-to-ones with team leaders or start to be more vocal in meetings, you need to make sure that people hear what you have to say and what you say will be of benefit to the company as a whole.

Learning new and relevant knowledge is important but it is what you do with this knowledge that can make all the difference so make sure that you take the time to share this knowledge and information with the people that matter in your firm.

Look outside of your industry

The thing is though; you can’t just solely look at your firm. You need to make sure that you are taking steps to examine the industry and see where the strengths and opportunities combine with the weaknesses and threats. SWOT analysis is the ideal way to analyse where your company is with respect to the industry and local area you operate in. If you only looked internally, you will find that it will be difficult to take steps forward in the industry as a whole.

Take an interest in what is going to happen in the industry, sector or area

In fact, you can’t just look at the industry; you need to look at everything. Your local area will play a big role in how you perform or what you can achieve. There is also a need to bear in mind that the performance of the local and global economy will likely have some form of impact on the performance of your company. There are so many things to bear in mind when looking to determine how your business will act and perform in the weeks, months and years to come.

Meet people from outside of your firm or local area

You shouldn’t just observe or study things outside of your area; you should be looking to meet people. There is a great deal to be said for meeting professionals and networking with them. It may be that they can help your business and you can help their firm, which means that everyone benefits.

If you are in the TV industry, the ideal event to attend would be MIPCOM 2016. This is an annual event held in Cannes, and it brings together the great and the good from the industry, which means that you get a lot of insight into what is likely to happen next in your sector. Even if this event isn’t relevant to you, Cannes is the home of business events and conferences, so it could be the ideal place for you to visit.
